Immunity in young animals
Immunoglobulins (Ig), are natural proteins that are part of a complex system with the clear aim of protecting vertebrates. These special proteins identify, mark and neutralize foreign substances in the animal’s body such as harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses and protozoa. Unlike humans, the construction of the placenta of some animals impedes the transfer of parental immunity to the foetus. Therefore, the progeny of e.g. pigs and most ruminants are born without or with insufficient immune protection. The supply of antibodies via maternal colostrum during initial stages of life is of vital importance.
Globigen® – a source of IgY for young animals
Numerous university and field studies have demonstrated that natural IgY’s in eggs serve as a potent supplement to support the immature immune system of young animals. These can be fed as egg powder in the diet, in milk replacers or directly given by means of a doser or a syringe. IgY’s have a key role in filling this “immunity gap”, attaching to e.g. diarrhoea causing pathogens in the intestine. Based on this knowledge, EW Nutrition offers these special egg powder based products under the brand Globigen®.
